OES has settled on a candidate to become the Interim Head of School for the 2016-17 year, The Dig has learned.
Associate Head of School Chris Schuck will make the identity of the Interim Head known to Upper School students and faculty in the near future, saying, “We are very near wrapping up the process. More likely than not, we will be able to announce the appointment by the end of the week.”
Tuesday’s Chapel or Wednesday’s Gathering are the most likely venues for the announcement to take place. Whether the Interim Head for next year will speak at the announcement remains to be seen.
There were four candidates for the position, all of whom are long-time members of the Upper School community in various roles.
Of the now-concluded search, Chris said, “The advisory panel has worked hard and did much listening, thinking, sifting, and sorting. We heard from students, parents, teachers, department chairs and the leadership team.”
“Though not a surprise, it has been affirming to note that the conversations with the various constituencies have been remarkably similar. We have a healthy, strong school community.”
He added, “People recognize that this is an important transition point, and they want to take good care to make the time between Jordan and his long-term successor a period of reflective, calm growth.”
The school’s focus will now shift to hiring that new permanent Head of the Upper School referenced. That individual will start with the 2017-18 school year. The search is expected to begin in full in late August, and the Interim Head for next year will not be under consideration for the position.
The Dig will have more as this story develops throughout the week.
