Mission Rep Candidate Statement: Olivia D

Civics Mission Rep

Olivia Durant Candidate Statement

Hello, everyone! My name is Olivia Durant and I would be honored to be your Civics Mission Representative on Policy Board next year. The past three years in the Upper School have given me the opportunity to participate in an array of OES activities. For example, I began participating in MUN in eighth grade. For Winterim this year, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the National High School Model United Nations Conference (NHSMUN) in New York City. At NHSMUN, I learned about how to effectively communicate, gather ideas, form a position that is representative of all parties, and then defend and pass a resolution to satisfy the majority.

Over the past few years, I have realized that I truly care about what is happening in the Upper School and I know that I am not the only person who cares. I believe that being the Civics Representative is not only about promoting the activities in the Civics category but also about representing civic interest and belief on Policy Board. It is said that every voice matters. To bring this concept to life, I will visit and talk with the members of each activity in the Civics group to hear their opinions and their vision about policy in the Upper School. Additionally, I will make it a priority to inform the members of specific civics activities, and the student body as a whole, about what is happening in policy board.  Thank you for your consideration.
