Most of you may be thinking, what is a good extra curricular that is fun and will give me good service hours?
Well, you’re in luck. AASK is the perfect activity for you! AASK is the tutoring program between OES and Beaverton High school that travels to Whitford Middle school. At Whitford, tutors read fun articles with kids, help with homework, and even play Kahoot. For many of the young kids we tutor, English may not be their first language. Our jobs as tutors is to help improve their reading skills while building their confidence as academic students. Trust me, it feels good to help a young student.
If you’re not convinced yet, here’s what other tutors say about AASK:
Kennedy B. ‘20- “AASK is so much fun. It’s a wonderful chance for me to learn Spanish better, since I have a Spanish-speaking student. It’s also a lot of fun to get to know my student better, become friends with him, and watch him grow as a student.”
Sherry Z. ‘19- “Yeah, I think AASK is a lot of fun, and I have been doing it for quite a while. Plus, it gives a lot of service hours.”
Mary Z. ‘19- “Yeah, I think AASK is so much fun because I become connected to these little kids, and you can also see them learning and growing their English capability. I think it is really fun to see these little kids grow academically.”
AASK runs every Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3-5. Plus, you can count it as an activity credit, so you get a new open period to do homework. To be honest, there is no downside to joining AASK. However, the winter session has already begun so you may need to wait until the spring session to sign up. However, if you can’t wait until then, head on over to Maria’s office in the language wing and give her a chat. I have been a tutor for AASK for two years now and there has not been a day where I did not have fun. Join AASK, and you will not regret it.
