OES Basketball Promotes Ed Kirk to Varsity Basketball Head Coach

By Alex Slusher

The OES basketball team will start its first summer in many years without Lauran Pratt as head coach

Pratt will be missed: the OES Basketball team has been to two consecutive state tournaments, and finished the season by playing some of their best basketball. After the 2017-2018 season, which saw OES reach the state quarterfinals, the reigns of the team were passed from Coach Pratt to Ed Kirk, the former junior varsity coach. Ed Kirk played college basketball at University of Alaska Anchorage, where he earned Third Team All America and Pacific West Conference Player of the Year. Former Captain and student Colby B ‘18 complemented Kirk, saying: “He clearly has a lot of knowledge of the game, he works well with his players, and understands how to get through to the kids. Kirk’s going to keep moving the program in the right direction, and will motivate his kids to work harder. Hopefully he will continue to take his players to Mcdonalds.” Coach Kirk has coached club basketball around Portland for years, and understands what it will take to continues OES’ success. Other players praised Kirk, explaining his ability to earn buy in from all of his players. The future of OES is bright with Kirk at the helm.
