During Winterim last year I had the pleasure of being an outdoor school counselor at Camp Cedar Ridge located in a rural area outside of Vernonia, Oregon.
I was joined by six other OES students, and spent the week as a counselor. Throughout the week I had a group of seven kids in my cabin that acted as the big brother to. During the days, each counselor took a role as an instructor for the three different field studies. I taught the earth field study, which focused on natural disasters, erosion, and the different layers of soil. I enjoyed my experience immensely and will remember it for many years to come.
I highly recommend being an outdoor school counselor to anyone in search of a project –it only requires one week of your life, and it is a week you won’t forget.
