The OES girls basketball team is looking good as they approach their first home game.
It is December, which means the start of Winter Sports at OES. Since November 12th, the OES gym has been extremely busy with both the OES girls and boys basketball teams starting practice. Led by new coach Brad Dawson, the girls are off to a hot start; they have started the year with a 3-3 record, including beating De La Salle on the road in their first league game. Sophomore guard Lauren Han ‘21 has made opposing teams regret leaving her open for three, and Grace Bourbon ‘21 has been instrumental in handling the pressure and running the OES offense. Senior captain Maddy Reynolds has held it down in the key, and Rachel Holzman ‘20 made some big free throws at the Salvation Army on Tuesday. A nice surprise for the Aardvarks has been Wiley Willmott ‘22, who has added lots of defense and rebounding to the team. Additionally, the OES bench has been key in many of their wins, providing helpful relief to the starters. Expect the return of Senior captain Rachel Lowell to bolster the team even more. Despite a tough loss in the season opener to Yamhill Carlton, the girls went 2-0 on their weekend trip to Astoria. After a solid first win in league play, the prospects are looking good for the Lady Varks.
