Things are Looking Good for the Varsity Girls Basketball Team

By Max Fitzloff

The OES girls basketball team is currently ranked 2nd in the Lewis and Clark league and has the 1st ranked defense in the state with an overall record of 14-7. The team is on a 2 game winning streak, with strong performances against Horizon and Catlin.

Junior superfan Ethan B. said, “I’m quite confident the girls will make a run on the state playoffs this year. Winning the ship is not out of question this year, especially with the senior leadership of Simran, Rachel, Alma, Maddy, and Rebecca.” I also spoke with men’s varsity player Ryan M. who said, “No doubt they are crowd pleasers, one of the most fast-paced teams in the league.” The two agreed that “the Showtime era is making its way to Beaverton, Oregon.”  From the games I have attended, the fans have had a powerful presence and have brought the hype necessary for a strong playoff showing.

During lunch on Thursday, I spoke with the whole team and they credit much of their success and change from last season to this season to senior captain Rachel Lowell who was absent last season due to injury. The team also expressed how this year, the chemistry of the team has improved quite a bit compared to last year. With a tough schedule to start the season, the team was forced to work together to get early season wins, and they credit the strong end of season chemistry to the difficult early-season schedule. The team explained to me how with the change in coaching last season caused them to work extra hard and to adapt and bond well. The new coach Lauren Pratt was a great addition to the team with his previous playoff experience.

The team wanted me to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day and encourage people to come out to the next playoff game.
