After teaching in the upper school for twenty six years, Robin Weitzer has decided to leave the OES community and take the next step of her journey.
Robin Weitzer began her time at OES in the Fall of 1987, and has taught “Spanish, English (as a 2nd language), and served as the International Student Advisor and now as the International Student Resource Coordinator.”
When asked what her favorite memory at OES has been, Robin’s response was that there are “so many amazing stories … Winterim trips, activities, summer English Language Institute … it’s hard to chose an absolute favorite memory, really. The highlight, without a doubt, is all that I’ve learned from my students.”
Next year, Robin will volunteer with a school in Kabul, Afghanistan, tutoring young Afghan girls. She will also volunteer as a tutor with the Portland Literacy Council and may return to the OES community as a sub or tutor!
Although I have personally never had Robin as a teacher, the impact she has made on many in the OES community is clear. Sophomore Vy Nguyen recalls her experience in ELS last year, stating that “Robin is one of the nicest teachers at OES. She is always so kind and attentive to students and her class always added a little bit of sunshine to my day.”
Undoubtedly, Robin’s impact on the OES community will not be forgotten, and she will be greatly missed by the students and faculty at this school. As Robin once said, “OES has been my family for so many years — it has truly been an amazing place for me to grow.”
Over the course of the next few weeks, be sure to stop by the language department and wish Robin farewell!
