As rain becomes a more frequent participant in the weather forecast, and the leaves on the trees start their transition to yellow and orange, another force sweeps through campus. Uncentralized and stealthy, this force is mobile and ever growing: the Men’s Cross Country team.

After finishing 6th at districts during a disappointing and injury-riddled season of rebuilding last year, the boys are already looking to return to the standard of consistency exhibited in the years under coaches Ryan Holland and Tyler Green. In fact, the season got off to a good, strong, early start from Green. Besides getting married and finishing 14th at the Western States Endurance Run, likely the premier ultra marathon race in the world, the bearded stallion signed with Nike Trail and got 100k views on Triller. Continuing a strong summer, OES sent three athletes to Steens Mountain Running Camp. It’s been a solid year so far, with the team surviving a uniform dispute with the athletic department, and having strong races at the OES Invite and Catlin Gabel Invite. Continually, the boys have done a great job spelunking in the pain cave1 and checking on their cookies2 this year.

Despite not having run any super speedy courses so far this year, the boys PR’s would currently place them at 5th in state. Stay tuned to The Dig for more Cross Country announcements, as it looks to be an exciting and news filled year. Also, be sure to check out Maya Hamdan’s article on the girls team.
