OES has quite a few new additions to the community this year, many of whom are teachers. Charlie Grant joined the Religion & Philosophy Department where he is substituting in for Katie Seltzer while she is on maternity leave.
Charlie grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he attended Catlin Gabel School. After graduating, he attended Bates College and moved to the East Coast. During his studies of art history and Buddhism, he spent a lot of time in Asia. He received a grant to travel to Sri Lanka and Nepal while studying how traditional and devotional art pieces are used and seen throughout Buddhism. He then worked in New Hampshire, moved to India, settled in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, all before returning to Portland.
Charlie has relished his time at OES and is very excited to be teaching two blocks of Religion and Social Justice. While talking to Charlie he explained how welcoming OES has been, especially because of the community-driven atmosphere. One of his favorite things about OES is the emphasis on service and social justice. Growing up and hearing about the Mt. Hood tragedy, he is appreciative of Oregon Episcopal School’s commitment to community service.
